In the hectic world of international cricket, World Cup winners are usually welcomed with private jets, red carpets and high-security motorcades. However, following India’s historical t20 world cup 2026 Star all-rounder’s victory at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad Shivam Dubey Proved that even national heroes sometimes have to depend on Indian Railways to go home. In a recently surfaced interview with Sambhavna Seth, Dubey and his wife, Anjum Khanshared a hilarious, human account of his secret journey from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.

Shivam Dubey recalls a light-hearted train journey experience after winning T20 World Cup 2026

With flights back to the city completely sold out due to the post-final rush, Dubey found himself in a major dilemma: he was desperate to get home but had no way to fly. Choosing practicality over prestige, the power-hitter booked a ticket on the Sayajiganj Express. To avoid the inevitable crowd of enthusiastic fans, Dubey resorted to some classic cloak and dagger tactics, sneaking onto the platform as soon as the train stopped. Immediately boarded the upper berth of 3-tier AC coach.

Highlights of the trip included a close interaction with a suspicious ticket collector (TC). When TC questioned whether the man hidden in the blanket was actually the World Cup winner, Dubey did not miss a beat, replying in Hindi: “She won’t come for a while. What are you talking about?” (Why would he be here? What are you even saying?). The ploy was also facilitated by a fellow passenger, who inadvertently defended Dubey’s anonymity by claiming that the cricketer would surely be busy partying rather than sitting in a third class compartment.

Dubey’s impressive finisher role in India’s 2026 campaign

While the train journey was light-hearted, Dube’s performance during the T20 World Cup 2026 was anything but ordinary. Transforming from a promising talent to a cold-blooded finisher, Dubey was the X-factor that allowed India to dominate the middle and death overs. The hallmark of his game was his ability to eliminate spin that proved vital on the varying pitches of the tournament, providing the essential bridge between the top-order anchor and the lower-order hitters.

Against a strong bowling attack in the final, Dubey’s composure was the difference maker. His knack of clearing the ropes with minimal effort ensured that India maintained a high strike rate even during the pressure-cooker moments of the knockout stage. In addition to his batting, his utility as a medium pace bowler gave the captain significant flexibility, often breaking partnerships when the opponent looked dangerous.

Upon reaching Mumbai, the stealth mission eventually required professional backup. To control the growing crowd at the station, Dubey sought assistance from the local police, who provided a discreet escort to ensure that the World Cup hero reached home safely. It was an appropriately chaotic end to a whirlwind 24 hours, going from the world’s tallest stadium to a quiet upper berth, and, finally, back into the arms of a celebrating city.
