Indian cricket on Tuesday witnessed another proud moment as former captain Rohit Sharma Awarded one of the country’s highest civilian honours, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The recognition follows an illustrious international career in which Rohit has established himself as one of the greatest white-ball batsmen in cricket history, while also leading India to major ICC trophies as captain.
The ceremony is a true tribute to a player whose influence extends far beyond statistics, having inspired generations of cricketers through his leadership, consistency and ability to perform on the biggest stages.
President Draupadi Murmu honored former India captain Rohit Sharma with Padma Shri award.
Rohit was officially honored Padma Shri By President Draupadi Murmu During the second civil investiture ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The honor recognizes his outstanding contribution to Indian cricket in a career spanning nearly two decades.
This honor has been given for his very successful leadership tenure, during which Rohit captained India. ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Title in 2024 before adding ICC Champions Trophy In 2025. Under his leadership, India emerged as one of the most dominant white-ball teams in world cricket, ending a long wait for major ICC silverware.
Apart from his achievements as captain, Rohit’s batting records rank him among the greatest ODI players of all time. He remains the holder of the highest individual ODI score of 264 and is the only batsman in cricket history to register three double centuries in this format. The Indian batting legend has now joined an elite list of cricketers to receive the Padma Shri Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, ms dhoni And Virat Kohli. Rohit’s international career statistics:

His achievements also include two T20 World Cup titles, first as a player in 2007 and later as captain in 2024.

Rohit remains an important personality in Indian cricket
While Rohit has retired from T20I and Test cricket, he has been playing a key role in India’s ODI setup.
