Catch attempt turns into a scary moment as Lungi Ngidi suffers serious injury
The incident occurred during the third over of Punjab Kings’ innings when Delhi Capitals captain Akshar Patel was bowling to the opener Priyansh Arya. Arya hits a full delivery hard onto the stumps, lofting the ball high towards the mid-off region. Ngidi tracked the ball while running backwards and looked ready to complete the catch. However, it appeared that he misjudged the flight at the last moment and failed to descend properly.
As he lost his balance, the tall fast bowler fell backwards and the back of his head hit the hard surface of the Arun Jaitley Stadium hard. His head obviously bounced off the ground, causing everyone on the field to immediately become worried. Ngidi immediately grabbed the back of his head in pain and rolled onto his side before remaining still for a few tense moments, causing serious concern between both teams.

An ambulance called medical team responds immediately
The physio and team doctor arrived on the field within seconds as players from both sides looked worried. Given the nature of the fall, the medical staff carefully examined his head and neck area before transporting him.
Ngidi remained down for more than a minute while doctors evaluated him. An ambulance was brought straight to the ground as soon as the severity of the injury became clear. A neck brace was carefully placed under his head and secured around his neck to prevent any movement before he was ready to be taken off.
