Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram is facing legal problems for promoting online sports betting and gambling platforms. According to a PTI report, a formal complaint has been filed in Lahore, and the authorities launched an investigation under the Electronic Crime Act 2016.
A Lahore -based citizen, Muhammad Faiz, has filed a complaint against Wasim Akram with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). Faiz alleged that the former Pakistan fast bowler was associated with a foreign betting stage and urged the authorities to take strict action against him.

The complaint accused Akram of promoting the international betting stage bet. In particular, the allegations received traction after the poster and video clip, in which Akram showed Akram supporting the app on social media.

The complainant said, “A poster and a video clip show on social media supports Wasim Akram online platform, which has created interest among general users in the app.”
The National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has confirmed the complaint to receive and said that if the charges are proved, the action will be followed. Akram has not yet issued any official statement.
An NCCIA official said, “If the allegations are found true, we will take action against him.”
Meanwhile, in a related development, the popular YouTuber and Tiktoker Saad-Rehman (Ducky Bhai) were recently arrested for their participation in promoting the same betting app.
For the first time, the controversy has not threatened Wasim Akram’s career
During the 1980s and 1990s, Wasim Akram was repeatedly linked to match-fixing scams in domestic and international cricket.
The investigation by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) found his participation, but refrained from imposing heavy ban due to his height as a senior player and a global star.
Akram is one of the greatest cricketers for Pakistan on the ground. He represented the nation in 104 tests and 356 Odis, scored over 6,500 runs and claimed 414 Test wickets with 502 ODI scalps. He strengthened his place among the biggest fast bowlers of the game despite controversies.

It is worth noting that promoting betting or gambling app in Pakistan is strictly banned, where such tasks are considered as a serious crime. Akram was recently seen covering a test between India and England during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
In particular, just a day after the allegations were revealed, Akram praised his first captain, Imran Khan, during the Stick to Cricket Podcast. He said that Khan’s confidence, leadership and hard work gave shape to his own cricket journey on the field and outside.
Akram said, “I think whatever I did as a cricketer, on the field, the credit goes to him. He used to give us a lot of confidence. He used to move forward from the front. He was a belief in his ability. He was a hardworking cricketer,” Akram said on the stick of cricket podcast.
