Washington Sundar was out in poor style in the first ODI while attempting a reverse sweep off Matthew Kuhnman.

Team India’s all-rounder Washington Sundar had to face a disappointing performance in the first ODI of the three-match series against Australia. The left-handed batsman managed only 10 runs off 10 balls before falling to left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnman at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday, October 19.

Australian captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and asked India to bat first. The home team ran away the Indian top order inside the powerplay. Shubman Gill (10), Rohit Sharma (8) and Virat Kohli (0) were out on low scores. Washington came out to bat when India were struggling at 84/5 after 20 overs.

This out happened on the third ball of the 24th over of India’s innings. Matthew Kuhnman got the better of Washington Sundar with a clever ball, bowling a slower ball on a good length which gave the batsman no pace to work with.

Sundar attempted a pre-planned reverse sweep but misjudged the length of the ball. It flew off his gloves before deflecting onto the stumps, ending his brief innings of 10 runs from 10 balls.

This wicket gave Kuhneman his second chance of the match and put India in further trouble as they kept losing wickets in an attempt to post a respectable score.
