Washington Sundar included in the team, India coach gave a big update on Jasprit Bumrah

Team India’s batting coach Ryan ten Doeschate has provided some key updates on Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah and Abhishek Sharma. All three cricketers entered into a period of uncertainty due to different injury concerns.

While Sharma played the opening match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the other two cricketers, Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar, were not in the playing eleven in the previous match due to injuries. The coach briefed the media on the fitness status of the three players ahead of their next group stage match with Namibia on 12 February.

Fitness update on Washington Sundar, Abhishek Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah

Ahead of India’s match with Namibia, Ryan ten Doeschate said spin bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar has joined the squad in Delhi and is all set to bowl. But he could not give any positive update on Bumrah and Sharma. The former Netherlands international said that Bumrah has not bowled for the last ten days and Abhishek Sharma is still not fully fit. The opening batsman is suffering from stomach upset.

After India’s opening match against the United States, captain Suryakumar Yadav also gave an injury update. He said that all-rounder Washington Sundar is ready to join the team in Delhi. In the follow-up, the batting coach informed Sundar that, as per the previous plan, he is currently with the team. But there is uncertainty regarding Bumrah and Sharma.

Sundar’s injury was serious

Regarding Bumrah, Yadav claimed that the star pacer was suffering from high fever, while Abhishek was “under the weather”. Team India has only one day left before its next match of ICC T20 World Cup 2026. In this time period, will both these cricketers be able to get back on track to play the next match? The question has not been answered yet.

Sundar suffered the injury during India’s home ODI series against New Zealand. The spin-bowling all-rounder suffered a side strain and rib muscle strain during the series. Since then, Tamil Nadu-born players have been out of action in any format of the game.

The injury was serious, but the BCCI decided not to replace him from the T20 World Cup squad. Sundar is back in the nets after completing his rehabilitation season and as per current reports, he looks fit enough to play competitive matches again.

Sundar missed many matches

The addition of Washington Sundar will undoubtedly add to the batting and bowling strength of the team; He can contribute equally well with both bat and ball. Washington Sundar’s absence was a matter of concern for the team management. Due to injuries, he could not even play in the bilateral T20 series with New Zealand before the match. Since he is now fit to perform, it is quite possible to see him straight into action against Namibia.

The 26-year-old player had to undergo an intensive rehabilitation program at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. During the rehabilitation season, the main focus was on increasing his strength and ensuring a full recovery. His return is a timely example, as India are scheduled to play Pakistan on February 15 after playing against Namibia on February 12.
