Team India cricketers Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar gave fans a laugh during the third and final ODI against Australia. Rana and Sundar failed to hit a boundary off left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, but the video of their attempt caught attention on social media.

India captain Shubman Gill lost the toss for the third consecutive time in the series at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney on Saturday, October 25. The visitors made two changes to their lineup, with Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav replacing Nitish Kumar Reddy and Arshdeep Singh.

Washington Sundar and Harshit Rana collided while trying to stop a ball from the boundary. This incident happened on the second ball of the 17th over of Australia’s innings.

Sundar slipped through deep midwicket to the ropes, while Rana came through deep backward square leg. Both the players collided with each other, due to which Sundar reached the boundary and the ball hit his body.

The TV umpire reviewed the incident to determine whether the ball or any fielder had touched the rope. Despite his efforts, the ball went beyond the boundary line and four runs were scored.

In the absence of Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana shared the new ball with Mohammed Siraj. The KKR fast bowler failed to take any wicket in his first spell and conceded 21 runs in his four overs. He took two wickets in the first two matches at an average of 53.50 and an economy rate of 6.69.

Meanwhile, Washington Sundar dismissed Matthew Short, who scored 30 runs off 41 balls. Virat Kohli took a sharp catch to send Australia’s No. 3 back to the dressing room. Sundar has taken four wickets at an average of over 15 in the series so far.

Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj strike to help India remove Australia’s openers

In the third ODI, Mohammed Siraj and Akshar Patel dismissed Australia’s openers Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh. Siraj provided the first breakthrough by dismissing Travis Head for 29, while Axar dismissed Mitchell Marsh, helping India take an early lead.

At the time of writing, Australia’s score was 124/3 after 23 overs, with Matt Renshaw and Alex Carey at the crease. The visitors are already 2-0 down in the three-match series, having lost the first two ODIs by seven wickets (DLS method) and two by two wickets.

Australia will be looking for a second consecutive home series win over India after a 2-1 win in 2020/21. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill is still looking for his first ODI win as the new India captain, having taken over from Rohit Sharma at the start of the series.
