Waqar Younis ends childhood accident to become cricketing legend
Close to the age of 15, Waqar Younis faced a tragic accident floating with his cousin in a canal in Multan. He tried to climb through an iron grill that was wet and slippery with water. He lost his balance, and one of his fingers got caught in bars. The fall also left him with three broken ribs.
Waqar initially did not even realize that he had lost a finger. The severe pain in his ribs and the blood vision covering his body assured him that the injuries were elsewhere. It was only when he finally saw his hand that he came to know what happened.
The young boy tried to come with the accident. Waqar refused to end his ambitions. He became one of Pakistan’s biggest fast bowlers, joining the army with Wasim Akram to dominate world cricket during the famous “Do WS” era.
