The Delhi Premier League (DPL) auction concluded in New Delhi as franchises raced to sign some of the finest young cricketers. The auction also attracted attention as former India opener Virender Sehwag’s son and Virat Kohli’s nephew were among the players selected for the upcoming season.
Each men’s franchise had a purse of ₹1.5 crore to build their team, while each of the four women’s teams was allocated ₹75 lakh. The third season of Delhi Premier League is scheduled to be held from July 31 to August 30, with many young talents ready to showcase their skills.
Virender Sehwag’s son and Virat Kohli’s nephew picked in Delhi Premier League auction
Vedant Sehwag was the last player to be sold in the Delhi Premier League auction. The 16-year-old player was signed by Central Delhi Kings for ₹1 lakh. Despite his young age, Vedant has already impressed in the Delhi cricket circuit and attracted attention with his performances.
Unlike his father Virender Sehwag, Vedant is a right-arm off-spinner who can also contribute with the bat. His elder brother, Aryaveer Sehwag, returned to the auction after representing Central Delhi Kings last season. West Delhi Lions bought Aryaveer for ₹3 lakh, giving him another chance to make his mark.
Virat Kohli’s 16 year old nephew Aryaveer Kohli also got a new team in the auction. Central Delhi Kings signed the young cricketer after representing South Delhi Superstars last season. Aryaveer will now look to make a big impact in the upcoming edition of the Delhi Premier League.
Sarthak Ranjan earns another big DPL contract
Sarthak Ranjan first came into limelight as the son of Bihar politician Pappu Yadav. However, the young batsman has built his reputation through consistent performances. He scored 449 runs in nine matches during the last season and was one of the top batsmen of the tournament.
North Delhi Strikers used their Right to Match card to retain Sarthak for ₹17 lakh. His impressive performances also earned him an IPL 2026 contract with Kolkata Knight Riders, who signed him for ₹30 lakh.
After the IPL auction, Pappu Yadav expressed his pride on social media and said that his son’s achievements have become the new identity of the family. “Now our identity will be made in the name of Sarthak.”
Tejashwi Dahiya becomes the most expensive player of DPL
Tejasvi Dahiya emerged as the most expensive player in the Delhi Premier League auction. South Delhi Superstars used their Right to Match card to retain him for ₹40 lakh, making him the highest-priced player in this year’s auction.
Unlike many other players, Dahiya does not come from a cricket or political background. Raised by parents who are teachers, he earned recognition through his performances. After going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, he bounced back with a brilliant Delhi Premier League season.
Dahiya had scored 339 runs in the last DPL season at a strike rate close to 200. His performances earned him an IPL 2026 contract with Kolkata Knight Riders, who bought him for ₹3 crore.
