Former Indian captain Virender Sehwag criticized the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) team management for making poor decisions in the IPL 2026 match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, April 25.
After many ups and downs, Lucknow Super Giants eventually lost the match in the Super Over after both teams played 20 overs each and the game was tied.
Sehwag was speaking to Cricbuzz after the game and took aim at the big names in the team’s think-tank.

Notably, the backroom of Lucknow Super Giants includes many big and established names. Apart from head coach Justin Langer, who has also coached Australia, the management includes former SRH head coach Tom Moody as director of cricket.
Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, who is still an active player in Tests and ODIs, joined the franchise as a ‘strategic advisor’ before the season.
Sehwag sharply criticized all of them and also raised questions on their working methods.
“LSG are unable to chase again, so chasing is their problem. You have a director of cricket, you have a head coach, you also have advisors like Kane Williamson, Justin Langer and Tom Moody, don’t their brains work? Can’t they see how their team is playing?”
He said, “The team is struggling in batting and yet after winning the toss you are inviting the other team to bat first. If they had got a chance to bat without pressure, even if they had scored just 140 or 150 runs, KKR would have been under pressure because they are also not playing well.”

Sehwag further said that the LSG’s decisions were very ignorant and he was unable to understand how these calls were being taken.
“I can’t understand it, you are having trouble chasing the target and yet you are choosing to chase the target every time. This is very stupid. Who is making these decisions?” He continued.
It is noteworthy that Lucknow Super Giants have batted second in 6 matches in IPL 2026 and have lost 4 of them, including the latest match in the Super Over.

LSG’s bad form and next matches
The loss to KKR on Sunday was LSG’s fifth consecutive defeat in IPL 2026. They are now struggling at the last position in the points table. Overall, they have won just 2 of their 8 matches. Another defeat will definitely knock them out of the tournament.
LSG’s struggles have mainly stemmed from their inability to achieve success on home soil. They have lost all their 4 matches at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow this year. Continuing from last year, their winning streak at home has now reached 8.
The Rishabh-Pant-led franchise will play Mumbai Indians in their next match on May 4 at the Wankhede Stadium. They have reason to celebrate as Australia wicketkeeper Josh Inglis is likely to be available for that match.
