Former India batsman Virender Sehwag is in trouble after a mistake he made during a live show. Sehwag was generally talking about Mumbai Indians and their struggles in IPL 2026 when he mistakenly called fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah ‘Chumrah’.

Jasprit Bumrah is going through a bad form, and this name has been used by critics to troll him. Sehwag immediately corrected himself, but the incident left a bad impression on everyone.

Jasprit Bumrah’s poor form in IPL 2026

Usually, Bumrah is almost always at his best, but IPL 2026 has not been good for him. He has become less than a shadow of his former form.

He has taken only 3 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 116.33. By league standards, his economy rate of 8.51 looks good on paper, but his lack of wickets has hurt the other bowlers in his team.

Virender Sehwag called Bumrah ‘Chumrah’ on air

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Sehwag was responding to a question about MI’s general struggle in IPL 2026. According to Sehwag, MI’s poor bowling performance was the biggest hurdle.

He said, “If we talk about the first match, they chased the target of 221 runs against KKR, since then their bowling has not been able to perform well. In that match too, their bowling was not good because they gave away 220 runs. But, because they won while chasing the target, people felt that they are a good team.”

“And since then, their bowling has been extremely poor. All their bowlers, like Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Hardik Pandya, ‘Chumrah’ and Jasprit Bumrah, have not taken many wickets. They have all gone for runs, at least before they got the batsmen out.”

He said, “I will especially talk about Jasprit Bumrah. If he takes a few wickets with the new ball or in the death overs, he creates pressure. Now, he is not giving runs, but he is also not taking any wickets. And from the other end, runs are coming, but wickets are not falling. So, I think the bowling has disappointed Mumbai more than the batting.”

The video of Sehwag’s mistake has now gone viral on the internet and users are debating whether Sehwag did it intentionally.

Next match between Jasprit Bumrah and Mumbai Indians

Bumrah will next be in action during Mumbai Indians’ reverse match against Punjab Kings on Thursday. Both the teams will clash at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. Even Quinton de Kock’s century in the last match at Wankhede Stadium could not stop Punjab from chasing 196 runs.

Prabhsimran Singh led his team to victory by scoring unbeaten 80 runs. Arshdeep Singh was the best player of the match for taking three wickets with the new ball. In that match, Jasprit Bumrah had given 41 runs in 4 overs without taking any wicket.
