Great Indian batsman Virender Sehwag has predicted a long ODI future for Yashasvi Jaiswal. The former Indian opener admitted that Yashasvi Jaiswal has the talent to play all three formats, but for now he will have to wait for Rohit Sharma to retire from ODI cricket.

Sehwag said Yashasvi has already shown what he can do in limited occasions in ODIs when Shubman Gill or Rohit Sharma were injured. He can also withstand pressure, but his time has not come yet. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to bat at No. 3 against Afghanistan.

Virender Sehwag predicts a big ODI future for Yashasvi Jaiswal after Rohit Sharma era

Virender Sehwag said that India’s current opening combination has already been decided with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, so there is no place for Yashasvi Jaiswal in the top order at the moment. But the former left-handed batsman believes that Jaiswal will come into the picture after Rohit retires from international cricket.

He also picked Ruturaj Gaikwad as a tough competitor for Jaiswal, but feels that Jaiswal has done enough to deserve preference over the Chennai Super Kings captain after Rohit’s departure.

“But there is no space right now. Shubman Gill is the captain. Rohit Sharma is playing. As soon as Rohit Sharma retires, you will see Jaiswal playing white-ball and ODI cricket as well. Ruturaj Gaikwad can be his rival. But if you take three openers, you will definitely see Jaiswal among them,” Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

The former Indian batsman said, “Look, he came into the ODI team only because a player like Gill or Sharma was not available. It was not that he got a chance and then he did not perform. When he got a chance, he performed very well. It was not that he was dropped after not performing. He was in the team because no one was playing.”

Virender Sehwag supported Yashasvi Jaiswal to play in all three formats.

Sehwag also said that Ishan Kishan has already shown his ability in ODIs with a double century, but currently he is not a part of the ODI setup. However, he strongly backed Jaiswal to play all three formats for India in the future.

He further added, “Ishan Kishan is not even a part of ODI cricket. He has scored the fastest double century in ODIs. So, he is also a player who is in the reckoning. But I would definitely like to see Jaiswal in ODI cricket and T20I, I mean, all three formats. He is a player who can play all three formats.”

India ready to test new No. 3 batsman as Morne Morkel reveals team’s big plans

Recently, India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel had said that with Virat Kohli not playing the ODI series against Afghanistan, India has an opportunity to test different players at the number 3 batting order. He told that players like Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul or Yashasvi Jaiswal can be given a chance in that role.

Morkel revealed that the Indian cricket team management wants to use these matches against Afghanistan on home soil to see who performs well in different batting positions so that they have more options and can prepare the best possible team for the upcoming big series.
