Amidst the team’s struggle in Test cricket, Virat Kohli’s elder brother Vikas Kohli has made a new attack on India’s national cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Vikas Kohli hit out at Gautam Gambhir and said that he tried to be bossy and made unnecessary changes in the Test setup despite things not going bad.
There was a time when we played to win even in foreign conditions – Virat Kohli’s brother attacks Gautam Gambhir
The Indian national cricket team had to face a humiliating 0-3 defeat at the hands of the New Zealand national cricket team in the Test series at home last year.
This was the first instance in the history of Test cricket when India faced defeat in a Test series on home soil. Also, India’s condition is looking bad in the ongoing Test series against South Africa.
They lost the first Test match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata and are on the verge of facing a humiliating defeat in the ongoing match in Guwahati.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli’s elder brother, Vikas Kohli, is furious after seeing India struggle as he took to the threads to indirectly take a dig at Gautam Gambhir.
Vikas Kohli wrote, “There was a time when we played to win even in overseas conditions. Now we are playing to save matches, even in India. This is what happens when you try to be the boss and unnecessarily change things that were not broken.”
Vikas Kohli reveals India’s ‘poor’ Test strategy
Virat Kohli’s brother compared the strategy of India and South Africa in another thread. He highlighted how India has increased its reliance on all-rounders, while the Proteas still rely on specialists, which is the reason behind their success. He said:
“So let’s break it down: Team India’s strategy: Remove senior, experienced players. Remove proper 3/4/5 batsmen. Play the bowler at No. 3.
“Use all-rounders… South Africa Strategy: Play proper Test match team: Specialist opening batsman. Specialist No. 3/4/5/6 batsman. Specialist spinner. Specialist fast bowler and maybe 1 all-rounder. Although I really want Team India to win but now questions need to be asked… Who is responsible???”
What we want to see now is a real fight – Parthiv Patel
In a conversation on JioHotstar, former wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel said that India need 522 runs to win and have 8 wickets in hand. He said that India needed to show an unrealistic fight on a spinning track to save the match. He said:
“What we want to see now is real fight and some determination from the Indian batsmen. Need to play a bit more towards the bodyline, defend properly – those are the things you want to see, and are expected from them at this level.”
“Yes, there is no doubt that the ball is spinning and bouncing too, but not as much as it did in Kolkata. On this pitch, if you show a little more technique, you can survive and play well.”
