A rivalry that turned into mutual admiration
The journeys of Kohli and Williamson have been closely intertwined since their appearance in the 2008 Under-19 World Cup. Over the next decade and beyond, both became pillars of world cricket and earned recognition as members of the famous “Fab Four” along with two other modern batsmen.
Although they often found themselves on opposite sides in high-pressure fixtures, the respect between the pair on and off the field was evident. His contrasting personality and calm professionalism have made him an admired figure in the global cricket community, with fans often praising the sportsmanship he displayed during his career.
Williamson leaves behind a remarkable legacy
Williamson is one of New Zealand’s most accomplished cricketers, finishing his international career with 19,346 runs in 378 matches. His tally includes 48 centuries and six double centuries, making him the country’s highest run-scorer across all formats.
His last appearance came in the opening Test of the ongoing series against England at Lord’s. This proved to be a quiet performance with the bat, as he managed scores of 0 and 18 as New Zealand lost by 115 runs.
Apart from his impressive batting numbers, Williamson’s leadership left an equally important mark. Serving as New Zealand captain across all formats between 2016 and 2024, he guided the team to multiple ICC tournament knockouts, including two World Cup finals and three semi-finals.
