Virat Kohli lit up the JSCA International Stadium complex in Ranchi even before he lifted his bat during the first ODI against South Africa, turning the boundary line into its own mini stage.
India pulled off a thrilling 17-run win in the final over in the opening match of the three-match ODI series in Ranchi on Sunday (November 30). It looked like it was going to be a one-sided affair but suddenly it turned into a dramatic thriller as South Africa, who were playing at 11 for 3, mounted an incredible counterattack.

Matthew Britzke led the fight with a brilliant 72 off 80 balls, Marco Jansen played a blistering 70 off just 39 balls, and Corbin Bosch joined the attack with a powerful 67 off 51 balls. Their combined attack gave India the lead and kept the crowd on their feet until the final moments.

But the turning point came when Kuldeep Yadav bowled the spells that India desperately needed. The star wrist spinner’s four wickets broke South Africa’s rhythm time and again. Kuldeep was the biggest difference in Ranchi’s victory.
Earlier in the day, India had posted a mammoth score of 349 runs thanks to brilliant performances from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The experienced pair made a century partnership for the second consecutive time.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Washington Sundar were out cheaply, but Kohli regained complete control and scored a record 52nd ODI century.
The flamboyant right-handed batsman continued his dominance over the South African attack with a brilliant inning of 135 runs. Ravindra Jadeja then provided the finishing touch by scoring 32 off 20 balls, giving India enough runs to survive South Africa’s late onslaught.
