Royal Challengers Bangalore have made one of the boldest decisions in their IPL history as they have rested star batsman Virat Kohli, using him as an impact player. Kohli, who usually opens the innings for Royal Challengers, will take the field during the second innings.
Royal Challengers Bangalore made a great start to their season as the defending champions of the tournament. They won their first title in 2025, ending the drought of 18 seasons and in this Virat played a major role in scoring the most runs with the bat.
Currently, Royal Challengers are at third place in the points table with three wins after four matches. They lost the game against Rajasthan Royals only after their batsmen struggled against the RR bowlers.
RCB steps up Virat Kohli as impact player against LSG
Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss against Lucknow Super Giants at their home ground M Chinnaswamy Stadium. RCB won the toss and decided to field first; However, what Rajat Patidar announced next surprised everyone.
Till now Virat Kohli was opening the innings; However, in the last game against Mumbai Indians, Kohli did not take the field during the second innings. It was revealed that Kohli had suffered some kind of injury due to which he had to stay off the field.
However, Kohli returned to the nets ahead of the clash against Lucknow Super Giants and will now be used as an influential player in the game, as Patidar revealed that he is not a part of the playing eleven during the bowling innings but is one of the five influential players.
