Virat Kohli stays away from One8 Commune as Bengaluru restaurant shuts down dues of over ₹2 crore

According to latest media reports, Virat Kohli has reportedly given up ownership of the company and has also withdrawn his brand name from the restaurant. According to reports, due to several compliance issues and notices over alleged fire safety violations in recent years, the Indian cricket star has distanced himself from the venture.

One8 Commune restaurant closed due to excessive dues

According to reports, One8 Commune restaurant in Bengaluru, which was managed by Trio Hills Hospitality, is accused of defaulting on rent for almost six months. The company is also charged pending maintenance fees and revenue share. The amount due is reportedly more than Rs 2 crore, which is a huge amount. Due to the exorbitant amount of debt, the building owner moved the local civil court to seek justice. The court ordered the restaurant to be closed until all dues were paid.

India Today claimed in its report, “The outlet had also received several notices from the Greater Bengaluru Municipal Corporation for regulatory violations. With Kohli leaving the brand and a decline in the number of customers, the business reportedly suffered significant losses. In line with the court’s directions, the restaurant will remain closed until the dues are paid.”

Some even bigger allegations against pubs and restaurants

In another instance, a case was registered against a pub and restaurant under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act for failing to provide a designated smoking area on the premises.

The restaurant had earlier received a warning for not maintaining precautionary measures. The restaurant was even accused of running without a no-objection certificate and other mandatory clearances from the fire department.

Virat Kohli completely separated himself from the restaurant

It has also been claimed that although the restaurant owners later obtained a stay order against the closure, the outlets have not resumed operations. At present all the work of the restaurant is closed.

In another incident, One8 Commune had to face another legal case in the past. A case was registered against his separate foundation on MG Road for violating the operating hours rule.

“Another case was also registered against One8 Commune along with other establishments on MG Road for operating beyond permitted hours. The Bengaluru branch of One8 Commune was to be inaugurated in December 2023,” the India Today report further added.

At present, no statement has been issued by Virat Kohli himself.
