Rinku Singh’s father dies after prolonged illness
Khanchand Singh was suffering from advanced liver cancer for a long time. His condition deteriorated significantly in the last few days, due to which he was admitted to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida on 21 February. He was kept on ventilator support for the last three to four days before he died on Friday morning.
Hospital PRO Dr Sunil Kumar confirmed that Khanchand Singh was suffering from advanced liver cancer, which worsened in his last days. Rinku’s former coach Masood Amini also confirmed the sad news to news agency PTI.
Khanchand Singh’s mortal remains were brought from Greater Noida to Aligarh, where Rinku was seen shouldering the funeral procession, a touching image that moved the nation.

Rinku’s race against time: From T20 World Cup camp to her father
Rinku shuttled between the Indian team camp and her ailing father throughout the World Cup. When his father’s condition worsened after India’s first Super 8 match against South Africa, he immediately returned home.
The left-handed batsman rejoined the team ahead of the crucial Zimbabwe match on February 26, hopeful that his father would recover. However, fate had something else in store. On Friday morning, Rinku left the team hotel in Chennai at 5:00 am to go to New Delhi.
According to BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, Rinku will not go to Kolkata with the team. It is necessary to win the Super 8 match against West Indies On Sunday. The team management has given him space to be with his family during this period of mourning, prioritizing his emotional well-being over cricket commitments.
