India took advantage of South Africa’s poor fielding during the second ODI in Raipur, where a double overthrow allowed Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad to score extra runs. This match is being held on Wednesday, December 3 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur.
South Africa chose to bowl first but struggled to slow down the hosts despite taking some early wickets. Nandre Berger, despite taking one wicket, gave away 42 runs in six overs. Meanwhile, the Men in Blue have kept the scoreboard running and are on track to set a strong total in the ongoing match.
Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad take advantage of South Africa’s fielding errors
India got two extra runs due to a bad fielding error by South Africa during the 22nd over. Virat Kohli tapped the ball towards square leg for a routine single, but a wild throw from Tony De Zorzi missed the keeper completely.
The backup throw was even worse, allowing the batsmen to easily score two extra runs. Fans on social media immediately mocked the Proteas for the mistake, calling it “school-level fielding” and pointing out how the team panicked under pressure.

At the time of misfield, India’s score was 137 runs for 2 wickets in 22 overs. Kohli was batting on 43 runs in 40 balls, while Ruturaj Gaikwad was batting on 41 runs in 46 balls. They put on a 75-run partnership, which kept the scoring rate high and put South Africa on the backfoot.
India lost two wickets in the powerplay in the second ODI.
India made a good start after being invited to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal started the innings by hitting a four on the very first ball. Rohit Sharma hit three consecutive fours off the ball of Nandre Berger in the fifth over. However, he was out after scoring 14 runs in 8 balls when he bowled the ball to Quinton de Kock.
Virat Kohli came at number three and made a confident start by hitting a six off Lungi Ngidi. However, Jaiswal could not carry on and was out to Marco Jansson after scoring 22 runs in 38 balls. India needed a steady partnership after both the openers were out in the powerplay.
Ruturaj Gaikwad came next and had good luck in the beginning. Trying to settle down and take his innings forward, he hit a brilliant four and a quick six.
India fielded an unchanged eleven after winning the first match of the series against South Africa.
India entered the second ODI with the same team which had won the first match in Ranchi by 17 runs. In that match, Virat Kohli had scored a brilliant century and KL Rahul’s team had taken a 1-0 lead in the series.
South Africa made some changes to their playing eleven as they looked to make a comeback. The visitors will be keen to win this match as they have not won an ODI series in India since 2015-16.
Earlier, India lost the toss in the 20th consecutive ODI. Despite this unwanted streak, the team has still managed to win most of its recent matches.
