Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to join the India national cricket team sooner than expected ahead of their much-awaited comeback. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were last seen in action for India during their victorious ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign in March 2025.
They were also impressive in IPL 2025 for their respective teams and Kohli even won his first trophy with RCB. He was also preparing for the England tour, but just before the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, he suddenly announced his retirement from Test cricket.

Now, he is active only in ODI cricket and aims to bid goodbye to the international arena in the ICC World Cup 2027. However, Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar clarified that there is no guarantee whether the iconic batsman will make the 2027 ICC World Cup squad or not.

Well, both Virat and Rohit were named in the ODI squad for the three-match series in Australia, and they will have to prove that they are still two of the greatest batsmen in the format to remain in contention for the mega event. The Men in Blue will play a total of 27 ODI matches before the ICC World Cup 2027.
Amid uncertainties over how many games the former Indian captain will get ahead of the global event, good news emerged ahead of the second and final Test against West Indies starting from October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi.

In fact, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will join the national team in Delhi ahead of India’s much-awaited tour of Australia later this month. Newly appointed ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer will also join his former captains in the national capital.
Depending on travel logistics and ticket availability, the Indian contingent is scheduled to depart in two batches on October 15, with one group flying in the morning and the other in the evening.
Kohli and Rohit are expected to reach New Delhi a day before or on the same day of departure. India will first land in Perth to begin the three-match ODI series against Australia on October 19, followed by a five-match T20I series.

“Virat and Rohit will reach the capital either on the day of departure or a day before,” PTI quoted a BCCI source as saying.
Schedule of India-Australia ODI and T20 series
The second ODI will be played at the Adelaide Oval on October 23, followed by the third and final match at the prestigious SCG in Sydney on October 25. On the other hand, the five-match T20 series between India and Australia will begin on October 29 at the Manuka Oval.
The second and third matches will be held at MCG on October 31 and Bellerive Oval on November 2 respectively. The fourth and fifth games are scheduled for 6 November at the Gold Coast Stadium and 8 November at The Gabba respectively.
Notably, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir had invited the entire Test team for a team dinner at his residence in Rajinder Nagar, Delhi, before the final Test against West Indies.
