Former India fast bowler S Sreesanth has opened up about the ongoing debate over the future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as India plan for the next 50-over ICC tournament. Sreesanth urged head coach Gautam Gambhir not to hold back the two legends and said that they are much better than many current players.

After helping India win the first ODI in Ranchi, Virat and Rohit continued training with full intensity ahead of the second match. Despite ongoing discussions about their future in the format, the senior players spent a long time in the nets. The second ODI will be played on Wednesday 3 December in Raipur.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma trained vigorously before the second ODI in Raipur.

Kohli was seen working against the right-arm and left-arm angles of India’s throw-down specialists. Under the floodlights he timed the ball well, even though some of the faster balls hit his bat.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir watched the session closely from between the nets and noted every detail. After finishing his batting, Kohli walked away from Gambhir without any conversation. Rohit, who promptly completed his session, stopped to talk to the coach before going inside.

Don’t stop crying – S Sreesanth urges Gautam Gambhir

Speaking during the Abu Dhabi T10 League, S Sreesanth urged Gautam Gambhir to keep supporting Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He said that he is entitled to continue in this format as long as he wants to play. Sreesanth also said that both the senior batsmen are much better than most of the current players.

“Gautam Bhai, you are the coach, don’t stop anyone, especially Ro-Ko. The record of Rohit and Virat is better and let them play as long as they want to play.” Sreesanth said.

He said, “Because they are thousands of times better than most of the players currently playing. So, I want to wish Ro-Ko all the best and please don’t stop those great legends Gauti.”

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s stellar form continues as selectors demand clarity on their future

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returned to ODI cricket during the Australia tour in October. Rohit scored a half-century and a century in the last two matches and won the Player of the Series award. After being out on zero twice in a row, Kohli also impressed by playing a match-winning inning of 74 runs.

He continued his form in the home series against South Africa. Rohit Sharma scored his third consecutive half-century, while Virat Kohli scored 135 runs in Ranchi. The pair helped India take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

However, the selectors still want clarity on their long-term plans. Both the players have been asked to participate in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy as per BCCI orders. It will be interesting to see senior players making a comeback in domestic cricket in the 50-over format.
