India national cricket team’s great batsman Virat Kohli won the Player of the Series award for his heroics in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against the South Africa national cricket team.
During the post-match conversation, Virat Kohli revealed his and Rohit Sharma’s mission in international cricket until they were playing for the India national cricket team.
I haven’t played like this in 2-3 years-Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli’s comeback to international cricket was poor as he got two consecutive ducks against the Australia national cricket team. However, he returned to form by scoring 74* in the third match.
As the ODI series between India and South Africa began, Kohli looked like a completely different beast as he scored two consecutive centuries in Ranchi and Raipur.
Apart from this, Kohli also looked in impressive form in the third ODI at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam and played a match-winning inning of 65* runs.
Speaking after winning the Player of the Series award, Virat Kohli said that he is quite satisfied with the way he is playing at the moment. He said:
“To be honest, the way I have played in the series is the most gratifying thing for me. I feel really free in my mind. I haven’t played like this in 2-3 years.”
When you play for so long – 15-16 years, you doubt yourself – Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli further made an honest confession saying that doubts often creep into his mind because he has been playing cricket for almost two decades. he explained:
“I know when I can bat like that in the middle, it helps the team a lot. It gives me confidence, whatever the situation is in the middle, I can handle it and bring it in favor of the team.
“When you play for so long – 15-16 years, you doubt yourself. Especially as a batsman when one mistake can take you out. It’s a whole journey of getting better and getting better as a person. It makes you better as a person and improves temperament as well. I’m glad I’m still able to contribute to the team.”
That’s why we played for the team for so long – Kohli on Rohit Sharma
When Virat Kohli was asked about hitting a lot of sixes in the ODI series against the Proteas, he said that he has the ability to play aggressive cricket in the world. He said:
“When I play freely, I know I can hit sixes. There are always levels you can unlock. The first one in Ranchi – because I had not played a game since Australia.”
In the end, Kohli said that he and Rohit Sharma only want to do special work for the team and the country. He said:
“How was your energy today, Ranchi is very special to me and I’m very grateful for how these three games went. It always brings out the best in us – that’s what we want to play for. When it’s 1-1, we want to do something special for the team. That’s why we’ve played for the team for so long. Just glad we both continued to do that for so long.”
