Virat Kohli will play in India for the first time after IPL
Indian legend Virat Kohli was last seen in action last month, when India toured Australia for a three-match ODI series. He recorded back-to-back ducks in the first two matches of the series and then bounced back with an unbeaten century which led them to victory.
He, along with former captain Rohit Sharma, are among the two players who are trying to retain their places in the Indian ODI team with their aim to represent India at the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup to be hosted by South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
The South Africa ODI will be the first time since IPL 2025 that Kohli will return to India for competitive cricket. This will be his return to international cricket in India after almost 10 months, as he last played against England in January.
Virat Kohli’s Under-19 teammate urges his return to Test cricket
Kohli announced his retirement from T20Is, but what impressed everyone was his sudden Test retirement announcement at the beginning of his WTC cycle. Kohli’s U19 teammate Srivatsa Goswami believes he has retired from the wrong format.
Goswami wrote on X, “Ideally, Virat should have quit playing ODIs and continued playing Test cricket until he had nothing to offer. Test cricket misses him. Not just as a player but the energy he brought, the love and passion he brought to play for India, where he made the team believe they could win in any conditions.”
