Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan has revealed about breaking a major T20 World Cup record of Team India batsman Virat Kohli in the ongoing tournament. The right-handed batsman said his main focus is to contribute for the team and win matches rather than chasing individual achievements.
Farhan scored 73 runs off 41 balls against the United States but was out for a duck against India. After this he scored a match-winning unbeaten century against Namibia. The 29-year-old player has scored 220 runs in four matches at an average of 73.33, with one half-century and one century to his name.
I don’t look at statistics – Sahibzada Farhan on breaking Virat Kohli’s record
At the pre-match press conference ahead of Pakistan’s game against England on Tuesday, Sahibzada Farhan was asked about breaking Virat Kohli’s record of most runs in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. Farhan said that he does not focus on personal achievements.
Farhan said, “If you ask me personally, I don’t look at statistics, I don’t look at records. Even when I perform, people tell me that I have hit so many sixes, played so many strikes and scored so many runs. So I don’t look at statistics.”
He said, “The important thing is that you have to take risks in T20. If you take pressure of breaking records, then those records are broken; they are meant to be broken. So my focus is not on that, but I will try to be on top. And it will be beneficial for Pakistan and will bring glory to Pakistan.”
Sahibzada Farhan’s form can be important for Pakistan in Super Eight stage
Virat Kohli had scored 319 runs in the 2014 T20 World Cup. He achieved this feat in six matches with an average of 106.33 and four half-centuries and is the highest score in the history of the tournament.
During the Super Eight stage, Sahibzada Farhan’s form could be crucial for Pakistan. To remain in the race for the semi-finals, the Men in Green will have to defeat England in the upcoming match.
Pakistan have just one point in the Super Eight stage after the opening match in Colombo was abandoned due to rain. The match against England has become extremely important as there is very little margin for error. England defeated Sri Lanka by 51 runs on the same ground.
Facing Joffra Archer is no big deal – Sahibzada Farhan
Sahibzada Farhan was asked about the challenge of facing Joffra Archer. Farhan said he was not worried about England’s fast bowlers as Pakistan’s batsmen had faced Archer before and were used to bowlers hitting speeds of 145 kmph.
Farhan said, “No, facing Jofra Archer is not a big deal. We have already faced him in Pakistan. We have good bowlers; they also bowl at 145 speed. So it is not a big deal.”
Pakistan is in second place in the Super Eight with one point. Earlier in the tournament, the Salman Ali Aga-led side had finished second behind India in the group stage.
