Team India OD captain Rohit Sharma, who now focuses on limited over cricket, is allegedly set to return to the nets at BCCI’s Center of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru for a pre-season fitness test. In particular, this will be the first appearance of a 38 -year -old batsman in COE after retiring from Test cricket.
Rohit Sharma last depicted competitive cricket during IPL 2025. Mumbai Indians (MI) was abolished after losing to Punjab Kings (PBK) in Qualifier 2. The right -handed batsman enjoyed a decent season with the bat, scoring more than 400 runs. He is preparing for his next assignment with Team India.

Rohit Sharma and prominent players, including Test Captain Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Yashsvi Jaiswal, Mohammad Sirj and Shardul Thakur, which will have to undergo the Yo-Yo Test.

The players will also go through the dexa scan to assess bone density, with regular blood tests as part of comprehensive fitness assessment. An official of the BCCI confirmed the Indian Express that all the centers are needed to fulfill these assessments.
“All players have to undergo a pre-season fitness test, it is mandatory according to the contract. These tests help the COE understand whether the players have to work or where they are short. As was a big break (after the England Test series), the players were given exercises to do at home,” BCCI official said.
No update on Virat Kohli’s fitness test
However, there is still no clarity on Virat Kohli, who retired from Test cricket in May 2025. Kohli also retired from T20I after India’s World Cup victory in 2024. He has been living in the UK with his family since the IPL ended in early June.
Virat Kohli has recently shared pictures of training in London. Kohli and Sharma played their last international match during the 2025 Champions Trophy. Team India abolished the 12 -year ICC ODI Trophy drought under the leadership of Sharma.
Virat Kohli was the second biggest run-scorer for India in the tournament. He scored 218 runs in five innings on an average of 54.50, while Sharma added 180 runs in five matches to 36.00.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli can line up for India in the three -match ODI series against Australia A against the prescribed Australia A at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on 30 September, 3 October and 5. The series will be played before Team India’s full tour of Australia, which closed on 19 October.
India will play three Odis and five T20Is with Perth, Adelaide and Sydney to host Odis on 19, 23 and 25 October respectively. Rohit and Kohli have not played competitive cricket since IPL 2025.
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket in May 2025 and focused on ODI completely. The pair can extend their career to 2027 World Cups in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
