Team India batsman Virat Kohli scored his second century of the series during the second ODI against South Africa at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur on Wednesday, December 3. Kohli was out soon after reaching the milestone, and he hurt himself in frustration.

After Rohit Sharma was out, Kohli came to the crease in the fifth over. The right-handed batsman opened his account with a six off Lungi Ngidi and continued his aggressive stance against the South African attack. The number three batsman completed his century in 90 balls by taking one run on the last ball of the 38th over.

Kohli scored 102 runs in 93 balls, but he looked quite disappointed after being out. As he returned, he waved his bat to receive a rousing standing ovation from the Raipur crowd, even his irritation at the manner of his dismissal was visible.

It was a tired looking stroke under extra bounce that ended Kohli’s brilliant innings, but not before he scored another memorable century in the series.

The intoxication of 100 is different – Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag and Irfan Pathan praised Virat Kohli after his second consecutive century in the ODI series. Sehwag jokingly said that while others count centuries, Kohli considers scoring them as a part of his daily routine. Pathan said that Kohli also disrupts the plans of the opposition team.

Sehwag wrote, “Virat Kohli has a different addiction to 100. We are counting centuries, he just does it as a routine. Back-to-back 100 for the King. 53rd ODI century. If Virat is there, it is possible. Brilliant century by Ruturaj Gaikwad, which has made batting very easy.”

“On Sundays the King definitely plays but on weekdays he plays with your plans. Brilliant 100 by Virat Kohli,” Pathan said.

South Africa made a comeback after century innings by Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

South Africa managed to pull the game back by taking quick wickets in the second ODI after Kohli and Ruturaj put India in a dominant position. Both the batsmen made a big partnership of 195 runs for the third wicket, in which Kohli scored a century and Gaikwad scored 105 runs in 83 balls.

Till the time of writing the news, India had scored 295 runs for 5 wickets in 42 overs, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja were trying to take the innings forward. Washington Sundar was the latest to depart, being run out for just one run.

Already leading 1-0, India will be aiming to clinch the series in Raipur, while South Africa will face an uphill battle to keep the competition alive. The final ODI match will be played on Saturday 6 December in Visakhapatnam.
