Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir reached star batsman Virat Kohli to know about his plans before the three -match ODI series starting on October 19 against Australia. In particular, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not certain for the ODI Cup in 2027.
Kohli will return to international cricket for India in the three -match ODI series against Australia from October 19. The star batsman last participated in the 2025 Champions Trophy final, where Rohit Sharma -led team won against New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Virat Kohli is set to return to action after the break after the IPL 2025 final, where he played an important role in the first IPL Trophy of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He scored 657 runs in 15 innings at an average of 54.75, the third largest innings in the tournament.
This Delhi -born batsman is spending time with his family in London due to not playing any competitive cricket. He has an extraordinary ODI record against Australia, scoring 2,451 runs in 50 matches at an average of 54.46, including eight centuries and 15 fifties.
The right -handed batsman has scored 1,327 runs in 29 ODIs on Australian soil at an average of 51.03, including five centuries and six half -centuries. Kohli played his first ODI in Australia during the Commonwealth Bank series in MCG in 2012.
Virat Kohli is expected to be part of India’s Test team in the England series
Born in Delhi, this cricketer ended his Test career in May. It was expected that he would be part of the India team for the series against England. The former captain now plays internationally in ODI cricket.
The 36 -year -old retired from the Test, played 123 matches and scored 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85 with 30 centuries. He is also the most successful Indian Test captain, who won 40 out of 68 matches, including no series on the home ground.
Virat Kohli faced a tough performance in his final Test series against Australia, 2024–25 border-Gavaskar Trophy. He played all five matches but could only score only 190 runs in nine innings at an average of 23.75, including a century.
Gautam Gambhir told Virat Kohli about ODI future before Australia series
According to Rohit Juglan of Revspports, Jugalan said that Gautam Gambhir approached Virat Kohli to clarify his availability in relation to the future. Juglan shared that Gambhir called Kohli in London and talked for about 15 minutes. He said that Kohli will discuss the issue after returning to India.

The remaining two matches of India’s ODI series in Australia are scheduled to be held on 23 October at Adelaide Oval and Sydney Cricket Ground on 25 October.
