Former Team India captain Virat Kohli added another major milestone in his career during his comeback to domestic cricket in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The right-handed batsman, who is playing for Delhi against Andhra in Bengaluru, became only the ninth player in history to reach the 16,000-run mark in List A cricket.
Following BCCI’s order, Virat Kohli returned to domestic cricket in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He came into the tournament in tremendous form after a stellar performance in the home ODI series against South Africa. Kohli recorded scores of 135, 102 and 65 not out in three matches and won the Player of the Series award.
Virat Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record in List-A cricket
Virat Kohli completed 16,000 runs in List A cricket during the Vijay Hazare Trophy match in Bengaluru on Wednesday, 24 December. They needed just one run before the game and achieved the feat with their first scoring shot while chasing the target of 299 runs.
Kohli became the second Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to reach 16,000 List A runs and the ninth player overall in the history of the format. He achieved this feat in 330 innings compared to Tendulkar’s 391 innings.
Kohli is second only to Tendulkar in India’s all-time List A run-scorers list and ahead of legends like Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma.

This legendary batsman also holds the record for most centuries in ODI cricket, in which he has 53 centuries. He is the fastest batsman to score 14,000 runs in ODI.
Virat Kohli started his List A career 20 years ago
Virat Kohli started his List A career about 20 years ago. He made his debut for Delhi in a one-day tournament at the Feroz Shah Kotla in February 2006, but did not get a chance to bat in that match.
Kohli played 16 more List A matches for Delhi. He has scored 910 runs at an impressive average of 60.66, which includes four centuries and four half-centuries. He last played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the 2010–11 season, where he also led the team as captain.
Kohli later returned to domestic one-day cricket during the 2013–14 NKP Salve Challenger Trophy. Delhi reached the final but lost to India Blue.
Overall, Sachin Tendulkar is the highest run scorer in List A cricket. Tendulkar has scored 21,999 runs in 538 List A matches with 60 centuries, while Kohli has 57 centuries in this format so far.
