Former India opener Akash Chopra opened about the debate around the fitness test of star batter Virat Kohli before the 2025-26 season. Chopra said that even though Kohli has completed his evaluation abroad, it should not be seen as an issue, dismissed the dispute as unnecessary speculation.
According to Dainik Jagran, Kohli began to undergo his compulsory BCCI pre-season fitness test in London. Meanwhile, the rest of the Indian squad, including skippers Rohit Sharma (ODI), Shubman Gill (Testing), and Suryakumar Yadav (T20I), completed their trials at the National Center of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Chopra said there should be no restriction on where the fitness test is done, unless it meets the standards of the BCCI. The former opener said that this will help avoid scheduleing conflicts and would smooth the process for both the board and the players.
“He honestly exemplified that next time if anyone is elsewhere, they can give fitness tests from there. If someone does this, you once draw a line in the sand that this is a rule. It may not be necessary in that rule to go to Bengaluru for all. If anyone is available, let them test anywhere,” he said.
