The match was really entertaining for the fans as both the powerful teams scored more than 200 runs in their respective batting phase. Using Devdutt Padikkal as an impact batsman was perhaps the master stroke of the match on the part of the RCB team management. He came and removed the pressure of the required run rate from the team. Padikkal, the batsman who has scored a lot of runs in domestic cricket in recent times, scored 61 runs facing only 26 balls. The number three batsman in RCB’s line-up hit a total of eleven fours, including seven fours and four sixes, which increased his strike rate. 234.62. Skipper Rajat Patidar, under whose captaincy Royal Challengers Bangalore won their first IPL trophy last season, scored 31 runs at a strike rate of 258.33.
Batsmen like Padikkal and Patidar got free license to play every ball because Virat Kohli was standing at one end of the crease from the beginning. When SRH fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat took the wicket of Phil Salt early in the second innings, RCB were on just 9 runs. After this, when Padikkal took the burden on his shoulders, Kohli remained sitting quietly on the deck. Steadily, the Indian batsman increased his run rate and when the match reached its final stage, Virat was unbeaten on 69 runs from 38 balls, with a strike rate of 181.58. The innings was supported by five fours and five sixes.
In the first innings of the match, when RCB was the fielding team, Virat dropped the catch of SRH batsman Aniket Verma, who scored 43 runs in 18 balls. The former captain dropped the catch of Verma, which took everyone by surprise, as Kohli has one of the safest hands around the world. Dropped catches may prove costly, but the batting line-up of the IPL 2025 winning team was good enough to overcome every hurdle in the match. New Zealand international fast bowler Jacob Duffy, who made his IPL debut for RCB tonight, was named man of the match for his bowling of 3/22 (4).
