Kohli’s batting has seen that extra touch of aggression and intensity and he has dominated the bowlers, registering half-centuries and centuries.

In the first ODI of the three-match series against the Kiwis, Chasemaster was at his best as he scored 93 runs off 91 balls with 8 fours and 1 six, falling just 7 runs short of his 85th international century.

Speaking after winning the Player of the Match award, Kohli said that he understands the excitement of the crowd when he comes out to bat, but he doesn’t like the cheering at all. He elaborated:

“(Crowd applauds when he comes out to bat) It all happens at different times in different sports, I know about it and to be honest I don’t feel good about it. I have seen the same thing happening with MS as well. It’s not a good feeling for a comeback player.”

“I understand the excitement of the crowd, but I try to focus on what I need to do and not think too much about it. I’m extremely grateful. Honestly, it’s a blessing. To bring so much joy to so many people by doing what you love – playing the sport you’ve loved since childhood – what more could I ask for? I’m living my dream, and seeing people smile makes me happy.”

“(How many POTM awards does he have?) Honestly, I have no idea. I send the trophies to my mother in Gurgaon – she loves to keep them. (On her being the second-highest run-scorer in international cricket) If I look back at my entire journey, it has been a dream come true for me.

“I’ve always known my capabilities, but I also know that I’ve had to work very hard to get to where I am today. God has given me more than I could ever ask for, I look back on my journey with so much grace and gratitude and I feel really proud of it.”

If there is one person in cricket who can match or break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 international centuries, it is Virat Kohli. However, the great batsman is not thinking about that and his entire focus is on giving his best performance for the country. Virat Kohli elaborated:

“(Was he thinking about his 54th century) If I’m honest, the way I’m playing right now, I’m not thinking about milestones at all. If we were batting first, maybe I would have worked harder. But while chasing, with the total on the board, I had to play from the position. I felt like hitting more boundaries, but experience comes in handy. The only thing in my mind was to put the team in a position where We can win comfortably.”
