Delhi Capitals (DC) cricketer Vipraj Nigam has lodged a police complaint after allegedly receiving threatening and blackmailing calls from a woman using multiple international phone numbers. According to reports, the harassment had been going on for more than two months, with the caller making repeated demands.

Vipraj was one of the biggest positives for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 season, showcasing his all-round abilities. The 21-year-old player took 11 wickets and scored 142 runs in 14 matches. His consistent performances have made him a strong contender for retention ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 mini-auction.

Vipraj Nigam has filed an FIR after facing months of harassment and threats from a woman who allegedly tried to blackmail him. According to her complaint, the caller made repeated demands and also threatened to leak the video if she did not agree.

Vipraj, a resident of Awas Vikas Colony, Barabanki, said the harassment started in September 2025. “Initially, the calls were made from one mobile number, but when I blocked it, the same person started using multiple foreign numbers to harass me.”

After blocking his initial number, the woman continued to contact him through several international numbers, sending abusive messages and threatening calls. The case was officially registered at Kotwali Nagar police station late Saturday night.

After the complaint of Vipraj Nigam, police registered FIR under BNS section 351(3) and 352.

At around 4 pm on Sunday afternoon, Vipraj Nigam lodged a formal complaint at the Nagar Kotwali police station. According to the complaint, the accused woman allegedly tried to extort money from him by threatening to file false criminal cases and circulating fake videos on social media to damage his image.

Following his complaint, the police registered an FIR under BNS sections 351 (3) for criminal intimidation and 352 for insult and disturbing peace. The accused has been identified as Richa Purohit. Authorities are currently working to locate the accused and verify the validity of the threats.

Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya confirmed that an investigation is underway. Nagar Kotwali officials, led by Sudhir Kumar Singh, have started reviewing the call records, digital evidence and the source of the international numbers used to contact the player.

Vipraj Nigam and his family are extremely distressed by the continued harassment and potential misuse of their personal information. The cricketer has appealed for immediate intervention from the authorities to save his reputation from any further damage.

Police officials have assured that the case is being taken up with urgency and strict legal action will be taken after thorough investigation of the evidence.

The incident has also caught the attention of the cricket world, raising concerns over the increasing number of cyber harassment and blackmail cases involving professional athletes.

City Kotwal Sudhir Kumar Singh said, “A case has been registered based on the cricketer’s complaint. Call details and digital evidence are being examined. The matter is being investigated.”
