Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy opens up on viral ‘mug’ post after Asia Cup 2025 final win. He revealed how he had planned to celebrate the win with the trophy, but in the absence of it, he managed to pose with the mug.
India managed to win the Asia Cup 2025 trophy after defeating Pakistan thrice in the tournament itself. However, a major controversy erupted when the Suryakumar Yadav-led team refused to take the trophy from the hands of the PCB chief, following which Mohsin Naqvi walked away with the trophy.
Varun Chakraborty breaks silence on viral post after Asia Cup win
After the incident, Indian players started trolling Pakistan players as well as ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The Indian captain left and the entire team jumped with joy and celebrated with an imaginary trophy.
After this incident, Varun Chakraborty posted a funny post on social media posing with a mug on the bed. He revealed that he had planned such a celebration with the trophy and hence, in its absence, he posed with a mug.
He said, “I knew we were going to win. By the time we won the second match, I knew if we met them in the final we would win. So I had everything planned. I had planned that I would sleep and take photos with the cup next to me. But after the match, there was nothing next to me. There was just a coffee cup, so I went ahead with that.”
This clarification came recently on ‘Breakfast with Champions’. Chakraborty said that he always believed that the Men in Blue would eventually win the title, and that without the trophy, they would remain champions, as it cannot be changed.
“I knew we would win all the games. We are the number one team in the world. The cup may be taken away but we are champions.”
Varun Chakravarthy, who doesn’t have many wickets to his name yet, bowled very economical spells in the shortest format of the game during the Asia Cup and climbed the ladder to reach the top spot in the ICC men’s T20I bowling rankings.
Varun told about his nature as a human being
Varun Chakraborty has been a constant in the Indian team since his return to the T20 team last time. Since his return to the format, he has been the leading wicket-taker for India in the shortest format. However, he is known to be a very calm person on and off the field.
About his nature as a person, he said, “I have always been an introvert. I am not like Arshdeep or Nair, who are outspoken and can crack jokes. My humor is a little darker. After practice, I go to my room, to get away from cricket, I keep writing. I love writing. It brings out what is in me and helps me visualize. In the end, I completely forgot that I am a cricketer. And I have a match to play the next day.”
