Vaibhav Suryavanshi is all set to make his debut with the senior cricket team in the near future. If he debuts for Team India at the age of just 15, it will be historic. He has a chance to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record and also become the youngest cricketer to play for the senior cricket team.
Former cricketers and cricket experts have started supporting Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s debut for the Men in Blue. but when? This is the question.
Carlos Brathwaite compared Vaibhav Suryavanshi to young Brian Lara
Former West Indies cricketer Carlos Brathwaite compared Vaibhav to a young Brian Lara. Like Vaibhav’s cricketing skills, Lara’s talent was also recognized early. Then, instead of handing over the debut cap to young Brian Lara, the West Indies cricket management kept him with the team to hone his talent.
Carlos Brathwaite said that the board has decided to keep Brian Lara close to the great batsman Vivian Richards. Lara was not initially in the team, but was with Richards. Under the guidance of the experienced batsman, he kept learning about international cricket. Once Brian Lara became more mature, the cricket board officially welcomed him into the team.
Sir Vivian Richards groomed Brian Lara
“I’m sorry, Vaibhav, but if you look at how the West Indies handled Brian Lara… he was a generational talent, everyone knew that,” Carlos Brathwaite said after the young Indian batsman’s 103 off 37 balls for Rajasthan Royals against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Jaipur. However their efforts went in vain as Sunrisers Hyderabad easily chased down the target of over 200.
“So what did the West Indies do? They mixed him with Viv Richards and whatnot, but he didn’t play [international cricket]. It was a different time with a lot of tour games, and he had broken up with the senior players without even making his debut. And then we know how his career has been after his debut,” he said on ESPNcricinfo’s Timeout Show.
Why did he ask BCCI to stop Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Team India debut?
Former West Indies cricketer and cricket expert shares Brian Lara’s story related to the dressing room of the Indian cricket team. Legends like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are still active in international cricket. Suryakumar Yadav is the captain of the T20 team.
So, by sharing some time with these legends, 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi will get a lot of time to learn and gather knowledge about the highest order of the game. Additionally, there will be some young players too, so that the budding batsmen can form a strong bond during the learning phase.
“So maybe the best of both worlds is – where you can put him with the Indian team – learn from Virat [Kohli]learn from rohit [Sharma]Learn from Suryakumar Yadav. Some of the young players are close to him in age, so he can learn from them before throwing him in the deep end,” Carlos Brathwaite further said in the conversation.
