Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s rapid emergence in the international scene is no less than a remarkable achievement. At just 15 years old, he got his first call-up to represent the national team for a T20I as the youngest player to join the camp.
Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut for India at the age of 16 years and 205 days, and Vaibhav Suryavanshi is on the verge of doing the same at just 15 years of age.
The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has picked emerging talents for the upcoming series against Ireland and England as well as the 2026 Asian Games. The Suryavanshi family was very happy with the selection. His father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi, could not hide his emotions when asked about his son’s origins.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi records brilliant IPL season in 2026
Since making his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for Rajasthan Royals in the 2025 season, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has continued to climb the ladder. The 2026 season of the league turned out to be an exhibition of the hitting skills of the Bihar-born player. Arguably, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is currently the cleanest striker of the ball in the Twenty20 format across the globe.
During the IPL 2026 campaign, the Rajasthan Royals opening batsman scored 776 runs in 16 matches at a whopping strike rate of 237.31 and finished the season as the leading run-scorer in the league. Along with the Orange Cap, the southpaw also claimed several other individual awards.
Vaibhav’s father shared some memorable incidents
Speaking with RevSportz, Sanjeev revealed that there are a few incidents that are most memorable for him. One is when his son announced his arrival in the Indian Premier League by hitting a six on the very first ball, and the other example is when Vaibhav scored a century in a BCCI tournament.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s father said, “There are really two memorable moments. The first was when he played his first IPL match and hit a six on the very first ball. I was very happy. He scored around 34 or 35 runs in that innings and I felt proud that my son made it to the IPL. The second memorable moment was when he scored a century in the BCCI tournament. That was really special for me.”
Sanjeev asks his son to be polite
Amidst the feel-good atmosphere, Sanjeev advises his son to never lose focus and remain humble as he still has a long way to go. “Now that he has been selected for the senior team, he must continue to work hard. That is the most important thing. Secondly, he must always remain humble and keep his feet firmly on the ground.”
“He should stay focused, work hard, score a lot of runs and help India win matches. Every run he scores should contribute to the success of the country. That’s what I want from him,” Sanjeev Suryavanshi added in his summary.
