Vaibhav Suryavanshi opens up on dreamy Zimbabwe tour, supporting VVS Laxman and Ishan Kishan’s role

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is once again making headlines as the 15-year-old batting sensation has created another record after his stellar performance during India’s 3-0 T20 series win over Zimbabwe. Vaibhav Suryavanshi played a key role in India’s first series win under new captain Shreyas Iyer and achieved something that no male international cricketer had done before at this age.

With his excellent batting in the three-match T20I series, Vaibhav became the youngest player to win the Player of the Series award in men’s international cricket. He finished as the leading run-scorer in the three-match T20I series with 151 runs with his fearless approach. Meanwhile, the India legend has urged the selectors to fast-track Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the 2027 World Cup.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi gave historic performance on Zimbabwe tour

Vaibhav Suryavanshi made a dream start to the Zimbabwe series by scoring 50 runs in just 18 balls in the first T20 match. In the second match, the left-handed opener could score only 20 runs. But he did not let this affect his confidence and made a strong comeback in the final T20 match.

Batting on the slow pitch of Harare, Vaibhav played with maturity beyond his age. He played a brilliant inning of 81 runs in 49 balls with the help of eight fours and four sixes. His innings helped India score 192/5 and the visiting team subsequently completed a 3–0 clean sweep by winning the final game by 35 runs.

The Bihar player won the Player of the Match award for his match-winning innings, and his consistent performances in all three matches also earned him the Player of the Series award. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer credited the stand-in coach after India’s 3-0 series win over Zimbabwe.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi describes the double award as a dream come true.

After receiving both the awards in Harare on 26 July, Vaibhav said that it was a dream come true to receive these honors while playing for the senior Indian team.

He thanked everyone who supported him during his journey and also expressed his gratitude to the senior players and coaching staff for their guidance.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi said in the BCCI video, “Being named Player of the Match and Player of the Series while representing the Indian senior team is a dream come true for me. I am extremely happy and grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout my journey. I would also like to thank the senior players and the coaching staff for their constant encouragement.”

VVS Laxman’s special advice worked wonders for Vaibhav Suryavanshi

The young batsman revealed that before the final match, India’s interim head coach VVS Laxman and coach Rishi Dhawan encouraged him to play freely without worrying about pressure. That support helped him remain relaxed and play his natural game on the tough Harare surface.

He further added, “Before the match, head coach VVS Laxman and coach Rishi Dhawan spent a lot of time talking to me. They asked how I was feeling and gave me complete freedom to express myself on the field. Their message was simple – just play your natural game and don’t think about anything else.”

Vaibhav Suryavanshi tells how Team India made him feel at home

Vaibhav also said that he never felt like he was new to the Indian team as everyone welcomed him warmly. The senior players made him feel comfortable from day one.

“I never felt like I was new to the senior Indian team. Everyone made me feel comfortable and it felt like I was just playing another match. Having Ishan Kishan in the team also helped because we both are from Bihar, so we share a good understanding and a similar environment,” he said.
