Vaibhav Suryavanshi played the best innings of his life as he humiliated the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bowlers in the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 eliminator game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh. He was hitting the ball right from the first over of the game.
After being asked to bat first by Pat Cummins, Wonderboy went crazy and scored 97 runs in 29 balls with the help of 12 sixes and 5 fours. After tonight’s innings, he has regained the Orange Cap and broken IPL records, leaving behind some of the greatest cricketers of the tournament and the game.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke many records!
Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke Chris Gayle’s record of hitting most sixes in a season. Universe Boss had hit 59 sixes in 14 innings in 2012, but tonight Universe Boss hit 65 sixes in 15 innings this season and scored a half-century in 16 balls.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi dominated the attack at an incredible strike rate, scoring 680 runs and becoming the leading run scorer by an uncapped batsman in a single IPL season. He also hit 12 sixes, the most by an Indian in an IPL innings, and equaled Gayle’s record for most number of 10+ hits. Both of them have attacked 4 times.
It was somewhere in my mind – Vaibhav Suryavanshi missed his century
During the mid-innings show, Vaibhav Suryavanshi said, “No, it was somewhere in my mind, but all the coaches told me to do what I have been doing in practice, enjoy the game, and not take pressure in this match. (Were the boundaries a little small for you?) No sir. (From your perspective, is 243 a little below par or quite decent?) No, even after I got out, it felt like scoring 260+ It is possible.”
“But now, whatever score we have, we want to defend it outside leg-stump and execute whatever plan we have. (Was the century in your mind?) I wasn’t really thinking about it like that, but I played that shot after seeing the fielder and so I misjudged it. If I had gone towards third man, it would have been easily cleared. But I tried to hit it straight, and that’s why I missed the shot.”
RR are all over SRH
Rajasthan Royals, after being invited to bat first, scored 243/8 in 20 overs thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 29 runs, Dhruv Jurel’s brilliant half-century on 21 balls and captain Ryan Parag’s short innings of 26 runs on 11 balls. Prafulla Hinz was one of the bowlers who took three wickets.
Abhishek Sharma, who came in to chase, was out for a duck, Ishan Kishan, who was striking, was out after scoring 33 runs and Travis Head failed to convert it into a big score despite the start as half of the SRH team returned to the pavilion with 93/5 inside 10 overs and now the target of 244 runs seems very far away.
