India A opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi faced a disappointing start to his India A career against Sri Lanka A on Tuesday, June 9. The youngster made his debut for India A in the opening match of the Tri-Nation A series at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, but could not score big.

After winning the toss, India A captain Tilak Verma chose to bat first and was hoping for a strong start from his opening pair. However, Suryavanshi scored 14 runs off 12 balls before a sharp fielding effort ended his innings, leaving India A needing to rebuild early in the encounter against Sri Lanka A.
Mohammad Shiraz dismissed Vaibhav Suryavanshi even before his India A debut
Vaibhav Suryavanshi made a positive start to his innings and hit three fours during his brief stay at the crease. This left-handed batsman looked aggressive from the beginning and tried to put pressure on the Sri Lanka A bowlers.

However, his aggressive approach quickly came to an end against fast bowler Mohammed Shiraz. Suryavanshi scored 14 runs in 12 balls before getting out in the fifth over of the innings.
The wicket came when Suryavanshi attempted to drive the full ball straight down the ground. The bat spun slightly in his hand and the ball flew towards mid-off, where Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige completed a brilliant diving catch.
His dismissal ended the opening partnership with Prabhsimran Singh and gave Sri Lanka A the early success. India A’s batting lineup also includes Priyansh Arya, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Verma, Ayush Badoni, Anukul Roy and Suryansh Shedge.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi eyes India’s debut on England and Ireland tour
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is one of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket. The selectors recently rewarded his excellent domestic performances by including him in India’s T20 squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England.
If Suryavanshi makes his debut during the tour, he will become the youngest male international cricketer to represent India. The teenager is set to break the long-standing record of Sachin Tendulkar, who made his international debut against Pakistan in 1989 at the age of 16 years and 205 days.
Suryavanshi has already built an impressive reputation at the youth level. He played a key role in India’s Under-19 World Cup win earlier this year and scored 175 against England in the final. An astrologer has predicted that Suryavanshi can one day surpass Rohit Sharma’s record ODI score of 264.

The left-handed batsman dominated the bowlers throughout the season and rewrote the record books with his power-hitting. He hit 72 sixes during IPL 2026 and broke the previous tournament record of 59 sixes set by Chris Gayle for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2012 season.
