Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history, became the youngest player to score a half-century in the U19 World Cup.

Team India’s young opening batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history during the ongoing group-stage match against Bangladesh in Bulawayo on Saturday, January 17. The left-handed batsman became the first player before the age of 15 to score a half-century in an Under-19 Cricket World Cup match.

Suryavanshi produced a quiet performance in the opening match against the United States on Thursday, January 15. Chasing 108 in a rain-affected game at Queens Sports Club, he opened the innings with Ayush Mhatre but could only score 2 runs in 4 balls. India won this match by six wickets.

India got off to a bad start after being invited to bat first. Captain Ayush Mhatre was out for 6 runs and Vedant Trivedi was out without opening the account, leaving India’s score at 12/2. However, Vaibhav Suryavanshi showed maturity and took control against the Bangladesh bowling attack.

The left-handed batsman completed his half-century in just 30 balls. He achieved this feat by taking a single on the sixth ball of the 13th over. At the age of just 14 years and 296 days, he became the youngest cricketer to score a half-century in Under-19 World Cup history.

Before being out, Vaibhav scored 72 runs in 67 balls, which included six fours and three sixes. His innings ended on the second ball of the 27th over when Iqbal Hussain Emon dismissed him and was caught by Al Fahadh. He also added 62 runs in 99 balls for the fourth wicket with Abhigyan Kundu.
