Vaibhav Suryavanshi narrowly missed another knockout century after being dismissed in a similar setup against Kagiso Rabada, replicating his dismissal against SRH’s Prafulla Hinge in the eliminator.
Rajasthan Royals looked to be in complete control till the 17th over of the game, with Vaibhav Suryavanshi close to another brilliant century. This time the century was not a quick innings, but a restrained and mature performance by the young player.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi left disappointed after being dismissed on the verge of another IPL century
Rajasthan Royals opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s very unexpected innings came to an end when Kagiso Rabada returned with the last over of the match. Suryavanshi had a slow start as the timing was not right in the powerplay.
He brought up his half-century off 31 balls, the slowest by his standards, having come close to a century with three fewer balls to spare in the previous match at the same venue. However, Suryavanshi struggled in the next few balls and scored 46 runs off just 16 balls.
Kagiso came back with a tough length and edged it short outside the off-stump, and Suryavanshi clearly lost his shape while attempting to play his infamous tennis shot that had given him so much success in this game. However, he got out at the wrong time and was easily caught by Prasidh Krishna at third man.
While leaving the field, he was completely disappointed and out of frustration, he threw away his gloves.
Suryavanshi breaks Sai Sudarshan’s IPL record; Shaun Marsh misses out on top spot
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is truly the greatest talent Indian cricket has seen at this age. The way he cleared the fence and the mentality that this talented lad showed throughout the IPL 2026 season makes him better than many great players.
With the runs he scored during the Gujarat Titans match in Qualifier 2, Vaibhav Suryavanshi completed 1000 runs in his IPL career and broke the records of many great players of the game. He became the fastest Indian to reach 1000 runs in IPL history, achieving the feat in just 23 innings, breaking the former record of Sai Sudarshan (25).
He is also the fastest in terms of balls taken to complete 1000 runs, surpassing the great Andre Russell. He is behind only Shaun Marsh in the list of batsmen to score the fastest 1000 runs in IPL, while GT has left batting coach Matthew Hayden behind.
Donovan Ferreira ruins GT’s plans to chase an easy target of 200 runs
After the dismissal of Suryavanshi, Gujarat Titans must have got some relief that the Royals could be successfully restricted to under 200 runs in their innings. The target looked achievable with Prasidh bowling the 19th over.
However, Donovan Ferreira, who had broken few boundaries by then, had some different plans up his sleeve. 200 has been chased only twice in the IPL playoffs and Ferreira helped the Royals make the leap.
He hit four huge sixes off the great Rashid Khan in the final over of the game and scored 27 runs, taking the Royals to a respectable 214 runs, which changed the dynamics of the scoreboard for the Royals as well as the Titans. He was out after scoring 38* runs on just 11 balls.
