While Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Suryavanshi are considered to be among the most fierce hitters in the T20 format, sources said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is closely monitoring their batting in the ongoing India vs England 5-match T20I series.

Ahead of the fourth match of the series in Bristol, it was reported that the board was actually not entirely impressed with the batsmen’s intention to hit a four on every ball.

Batting of Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma is a matter of concern

The ultra-aggressive batting nature of the Indian cricket team can prove fruitful if they can keep the ball on their blades in the middle. If they are unable to do so, it could lead to them losing wickets early in the matches, just like what happened in the ongoing T20 series.

Abhishek Sharma had a good start to the UK series, scoring a half-century against Ireland and then another half-century against England. Both of the quick-fire 50s he scored were a result of his extremely intense batting. The same can be said for Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who is known to attack the bowlers hard from the very first ball.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made his debut in Manchester after winning the Orange Cap by scoring the highest runs at a strike rate of 200 in the last edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has also been in trouble against the England bowlers.

Will BCCI remove Vaibhav Suryavanshi?

There is no doubt that the Indian team management has great confidence in the 15-year-old batsman, as he has the ability to serve the team for a long time in the future. But if he continues to give flop shows for the national cricket team, then the selectors will have to take a tough decision.

By omitting 2026 T20 World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav, 2026 T20 World Cup tournament player Sanju Samson from the full T20 squad and the playing XI respectively, the selectors have sent a clear message: performance will decide the future.

ANI journalist Vipul Kashyap claimed on social media platform ‘X’ that BCCI is not happy with the batting style of Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

“The BCCI is closely monitoring the series against England, especially the performances of Abhishek and Suryavanshi; their desire to hit sixes on every ball is good, but they need to control it,” the social media post read.

Jofra Archer once again dismissed Vaibhav Suryavanshi

In the fourth match, which is a do-or-die match for India as England are leading the series 2-0 after the first match of the series was washed out due to rain, Abhishek Sharma was out after scoring 16 runs in 14 balls, and Vaibhav Suryavanshi was out after scoring only 15 runs in 10 balls.

In back-to-back encounters, England fast bowler Joffra Archer got the wicket of Vaibhav. If the reports are to be believed to be true, will the Indian team management consider making changes to its starting combination again? It would be interesting to know this.
