Australian all-rounder Cameron Green made a surprise gesture after being dismissed by Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq during the second T20 match in Lahore on Saturday, January 31. The moment immediately gained attention and sparked debate, and Tariq later responded off the field by posting on social media.

Pakistan defeated Australia by 90 runs at the Gaddafi Stadium, handing them their biggest T20I defeat in 21 years. The visiting team was bowled out for just 108 runs in 15.4 overs, while all ten Australian wickets fell to spin. Before the T20 World Cup 2026, Pakistan has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Cameron Green accuses Usman Tariq of ‘chucking’ after dismissal

Cameron Green was dismissed by Usman Tariq in the 11th over of the run chase. He tried to hit it across the line, but the ball went straight to Shadab Khan at point. Green scored 35 runs from 20 balls and his wicket left Australia struggling at 6-76.

As he walked back, Green looked upset and was clearly unhappy with Tariq’s bowling action. He imitated the spinner’s action by swinging his arm with the elbow bent twice.

This incident immediately sparked debate on social media. Many Pakistani fans criticized Green’s reaction and mocked his behavior after his dismissal. Others supported Green and questioned whether Tariq’s actions were legal.

Tariq, who was playing only his third T20 match, finished with figures of 2-16 in 2.4 overs. He also dismissed Australian tailender Matthew Kuhneman. There have been no reports of any formal complaints being made by Australia or the umpires about the 28-year-old’s bowling action.

Tariq reacted to this controversy on social media. On Sunday morning, the Pakistan spinner shared a video on his Instagram story in which a child is seen crying. He added the caption “After getting out” along with a laughing face emoji.

Many viewers took the post as a dig at Cameron Green. The upload suggested that Tariq was making fun of the Australian all-rounder after the earlier accusation of chucking.

Usman Tariq’s bowling action has come into discussion

Tariq uses an unusual bowling style, as he pauses close to the release and almost pauses before bowling the ball. He bowls his off-breaks with a slinging motion and a pronounced bend in his arm.

Under ICC rules, a bowling action is illegal if the elbow straightens more than 15 degrees while bowling. Tariq has been reported twice for suspected illegal action while playing for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League in 2024 and 2025.

The first report came from umpires Asif Yaqoob and Richard Illingworth, while the second report involved match officials Ahsan Raza and Chris Brown. On both occasions, Tariq underwent biomechanical testing at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

Experts cleared his action each time, allowing him to continue bowling in T20 competitions. While his sidearm-style action is allowed, his elbow must still remain within the 15-degree range.
