Former Australia opener Usman Khawaja was surprised when he heard that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has punished its T20 World Cup 2026 players for not performing as per expectations. Khawaja took to social media and expressed his distrust and dissatisfaction with the Pakistan Cricket Board. The former cricketer said that Pakistan has become a drama series for him.
Despite winning their last Super 8 match against Sri Lanka, the Pakistan national cricket team bowed out of the Super 8 of the ongoing T20 World Cup. The Salman Ali Aga-led team was out of the title race due to low run rate.
Usman Khawaja openly mocks Pakistan Cricket Board for punishing cricketers
Winning and losing is part of every game. But giving a penalty merely because of poor performance is a rare occasion in cricket. As soon as this news became public, cricket experts and fans were shocked. Usman Khawaja is the latest person to speak on the matter.
The former Australian cricketer, who was born in Islamabad, Pakistan, mocked the PCB and said that fining cricketers is a terrible decision by the board as players are already under pressure, no one comes on the field to lose.
Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board is under the scanner of some serious questions raised by the former cricketer.
“Surprisingly, the PCB might think this is a good idea. Sorry, I’m laughing because I can’t believe it. In which high-performing team in the entire world, leave alone cricket, are players fined when they lose a cricket match?”, Khawaja questioned the Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board.
Usman Khawaja further said in his reaction video, “They are not trying to lose the cricket game. And how do you think that will make them perform better next time? This will put more pressure and more pressure on the players. I mean, they are under a lot of pressure. They are Pakistani players.”
Usman Khawaja compared Pakistan with drama series
Khawaja directly said that it is a shame that the PCB imposed fines against players who had gone to the event to represent the country. He said that for him Pakistan is nothing but a drama and he is waiting for the next episode.
“The whole country is watching them. I mean, selection in the past has also put them under pressure as players. And now, on top of that, you are fining them? It’s such a shame because I really feel for the Pakistani players. Poor Pakistani players… Every time I think Pakistan won’t surprise me, they surprise me. It’s like a drama series. I can’t wait for the next episode”, the 39-year-old concluded.
