It was an exciting match at the M. Chinnasamy Stadium. As expected, Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (RCB vs SRH) turned out to be another high-scoring encounter. Whenever these two teams faced each other on the last few occasions, it was entertaining. Saturday’s IPL 2026 opener was nothing extraordinary.
Under the leadership of their stand-in captain Ishan Kishan, SRH fought well from the beginning, but in the end it was RCB who lost the final. Thanks to Jacob Duffy’s brilliant bowling at the start of the match and Devdutt Padikkal’s explosive batting as impact sub and Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 69 off 38 balls.
IPL 2026: RCB vs SRH Match Result
RCB captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and decided to field first. Both teams suffered setbacks due to injury concerns. Bengaluru did not get the services of its top fast bowler Josh Hazlewood for the match and Hyderabad played the match without Pat Cummins. Hyderabad may have missed Cummins, but Bengaluru performed brilliantly by including New Zealand fast bowler Jacob Duffy. In his first match, the bowler took 3 wickets in his 4 over spell at an economy rate of 5.5.
A 97-run partnership between Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen brought the team out of the slump. While Kishan scored 80 runs in 38 balls, Klaasen was out after scoring 31 runs in 22 balls. Klaasen’s wicket came with many doubts and controversies. Later Aniket Verma played an effective inning of 43 runs in 18 balls. RCB could have dismissed Verma early, but Virat Kohli surprisingly dropped the catch. SRH scored 201 runs at the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs.
Chasing a target of over 200 was not easy, especially after the early fall of Phil Salt. Using Devdutt Padikkal as an impact sub for the third innings proved to be a game changer when he scored 61 off 26 balls with seven sixes and four fours. After Padikkal’s innings, RCB continuously moved towards the target score. Virat Kohli remained unbeaten after scoring 69 runs along with Tim David (16*). Captain Rajat Patidar also helped the team win the match by playing an easy inning of 31 runs out of 12.
