Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, match number 33, was between the two most successful franchises, Mumbai Indians (MI) took on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium. A large number of fans came for this important match. This was the first MI vs CSK match without MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma in the playing eleven.
CSK beat MI by 103 runs. It was a great victory for the men in yellow. MI captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first. The five-time winners played the same team in their last match against Gujarat Titans. CSK made changes, Ayush Mhatre was out, Akeal Hosein and Karthik Sharma came in.

After being invited to bat first, Sanju Samson got off to an aggressive start along with Ruturaj Gaikwad and the CSK skipper scored 22 runs off 14 balls. After this Sanju took the responsibility and tried to score runs at a good pace. Then, Sarfaraz Khan and Dewald Brewis played some short innings and scored 14 and 21 runs respectively.
Sanju completed his second half-century of IPL 2026 in 26 balls and Karthik Sharma once again disappointed and was out on the score of 18 runs. However, Smason held on till the end and scored a brilliant century and helped Chennai cross the 200-run mark as they scored 207/6, with Sanju remaining unbeaten with a score of 101*.
MI had a very poor start to chase the target as they lost three wickets inside two overs, the score was 11/3 and Akeal Hosein took two wickets in his first two overs. The first wicket to fall was Danish Malewar for a golden duck, and then there was Quinton de Kock who was dismissed by Mukesh Chaudhary, and then Hosein dismissed Naman Dheer.
MI could only reach 29/3 in the power play, which was a brilliant bowling performance from the Chennai bowlers. This was his lowest score in the power play in IPL 2026. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma then put on a 73-run partnership as Tilak was out for 37 as Akil took his third wicket of the match.
After the dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav, who was the second-highest scorer with 36 runs, Mumbai fell like nine pins as they lost four wickets in the space of four runs, and the wickets kept falling for the five-time winners. Shardul Thakur, who came in as a concussion replacement for Mitchell Santner, could only score 6 runs and Mumbai Indians were all out for 104 runs.
