Team India will begin its campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 against USA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday (February 7).

The Men in Blue are the defending champions and will be hoping to start their title-defense with an impressive win. However, they will have to do this without their fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. The right-arm fast bowler has been ruled out of the match against America.

Speaking at the toss, captain Suryakumar Yadav confirmed the development, saying that Jasprit Bumrah will not play against the United States as he is unwell. The India captain also confirmed that Mohammed Siraj has been replaced by Jasprit Bumrah in the playing eleven.

There is no Jasprit Bumrah in India’s playing eleven:

Suryakumar also said that Sanju Samson and Washington Sundar are also not in the playing eleven. If Samson is out, Ishan Kishan will open the innings with Abhishek Sharma. Tilak Verma has also returned to the playing eleven after missing the five-match series against New Zealand due to injury.

Meanwhile, India is batting first after losing the toss. Speaking on the toss, Suryakumar said: “We were looking forward to batting first. It feels good here. I have played a lot of cricket here. There is also wind around, so I don’t think there will be too much dew later on. There will be a bit of pressure for sure. We can’t run away from that fact, but then the new tournament, we want to play the same way we have been playing in the last one or two years and want to continue the same. It’s live before the game starts and I am sure when we start batting, it will get more wild.

“We don’t have Washington Sundar, don’t have Sanju Samson. Unfortunately Jasprit Bumrah is not well so Mohammed Siraj is playing.” He added.

India’s playing XI:

Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Verma, Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dubey, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Varun Chakraborty.
