The ICC is working with Vice President Imran Khawaja, who is acting as a mediator between the council members of the two countries. ICC generates most of the revenue from this match from gate sales, rights sales and more. They will have to suffer losses if they are unable to organize the match on the scheduled date.
Sri Lanka sent an official letter to Pakistan
It will indeed be difficult for the co-host nation Sri Lanka, who will have to face defeat, as the match is scheduled at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Sri Lanka Cricket has already sent an official email to Pakistan to reconsider the decision. PCB has good relations with SLC and they are going to meet with the national government.
Pakistan’s decision comes just after Bangladesh were pulled from the T20 World Cup, replaced by Scotland, as the Bangla Tigers stuck to their stance of changing the venue from India to Sri Lanka citing security reasons. The decision was taken after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) barred Mustafizur Rahman from playing the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL).
Pakistan showed solidarity
Pakistan was the only nation that supported Bangladesh; However, both countries have failed to garner support from other countries. The PCB also approached other board members to seek support for the India vs Pakistan controversy, but they remained empty handed. According to reports, Pakistan has demanded some things from ICC to play against India.
The PCB has asked the ICC to restart the India vs Pakistan bilateral series, but the decision will not be valid as the BCCI will not take a final decision on the matter. PCB has also asked to increase the annual revenue received from ICC. Pakistan receives about US$34.5 million, the fourth highest.
They also want India to resume shaking hands with Pakistan players to maintain the spirit of the game. However, the final decision on the demands will be taken after the emergency meeting to be held today.
