Young batsman Triston Stabs avoided a freak dismissal during the second ODI between England and South Africa at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on Thursday, 4 September. The South African batsman lost control of his bat, which almost crashed into a stump, which shocked Sakib Mahmood.

Stabs reached the crease with South Africa in trouble at 93/3. Protiaz collapsed after a strong start. He and Matthew Bretzke rescued the team. The pair disappointed England bowlers with a 147 -run stand for the fourth wicket. Both batsmen reached their half -century and put the Protease back on the track.

Triston Stabs survived in the 31st over of South Africa’s innings when Saqib Mahmud’s delivery led to almost one dismissal. The 25-year-old batsman played a back-foot defensive shot, but lost his grip on the bat, which flew away from his hands and came close to the stump.

Stabs rejected as the ball and BAT remembered the wicket with an inch, and Mahmood, stunned by strange escape, was seen holding his face in mistrust, while commentators and fans reacted in shock.

The incident with Stubs Batting for 16 runs in 28 balls was caught on camera and quickly went viral on social media, many of which called it a “miraculous escape”.

Triston Stabs’ 58 South Africa Post 330/8

South Africa posted a huge total of 330/8 in their 50 overs with contribution to all batsmen. Aiden Markram (49) and Ryan Ricelton (35) added a 73 -run partnership for the initial wicket. However, Captain Temba Bavuma ended for just 4.

Matthew Bretzke, who scored 85 off 77 balls with seven fours and three sixes, and Triston Stabs saved the team after the initial wickets. Stabs’s innings ended in a mix-up with Developed Brevis, who scored 42 runs off 20 balls, while Corbin Bosch remained unbeaten on 32 to pursue a total of 330 on 32.

For England, Jofra Archer was a pick of four -wicket bowlers, while Adil Rashid was the most economical, taking two wickets for 33 runs.

South Africa won the first ODI series in England since 1998

Chasing 331, England landed for a poor start as Jamie Smith ended on the first ball. Joe Root scored 61 runs off 72 balls, and Jacob Bethel added 58 from 40 delivery to keep England into controversy.

Jose Butler scored 51 runs in 51 balls, and Will Jack contributed 39 out of 33 balls, but regular wickets chased. Jofra Archer, who scored 27 runs in 14 balls, brought England almost home, but was reduced by five runs, finishing 325/9.

Nandre Burger led the South African attack with 3 wickets including Will Jack, while Keshav Maharaj secured 2. The win was the victory of South Africa’s first ODI series in England since 1998. England last won the bilateral ODI series against Protease in 2017.
