Will Pakistan play against India on February 15 for the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 group round match? The tournament has started from 7th February and the answer is not clear. Pakistan keeps the International Cricket Council (ICC) as well as the entire cricket world guessing.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has threatened to boycott the highly valued T20 World Cup match to express its strong protest against the ICC for excluding Bangladesh from the tournament. At present, discussions are going on between ICC and PCB so that the match of February 15 can be organized as per the original plan.
ICC and PCB meeting held
The Pakistan government informed through its official social media account that its men’s cricket team will play in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 but will not face its arch rival in Colombo, Sri Lanka on February 15. The thing to note is that this information was not given by the PCB but by the Government of Pakistan. Then what is the stance of PCB?
PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi has already threatened to boycott the match. This decision of the government came a few days after the meeting between Naqvi and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. It is believed that the call for boycott is strongly influenced by Naqvi, as he is also the interior minister of the country.
If Pakistan cricket team abandons its match with Men in Blue, then ICC can take several steps against Pakistan cricket. Even a ban from big tournaments is possible. But the Jay Shah-led council urged the PCB to go ahead with the match as per schedule.
PCB’s demand to play the match with India on February 15
According to recent media reports, ICC officials recently held talks with PCB officials to understand the situation and find a solution. After the talks between the two sides, it is being told that the situation is far from normal.
It is being claimed on social media platforms that the cricket board put forward several criteria to the ICC officials to reverse the call for boycott of its T20 World Cup 2026 match with India in Colombo, which is a neutral venue. According to claims, ICC rejected PCB’s demands.
Demands made by PCB and rejected by ICC:
– The PCB demanded that the BCCI should allow their national team to participate in bilateral matches with Pakistan, which was rejected by the ICC.
– PCB demanded a tri-nation series between India, Pakistan and Bangladesh in the near future. ICC also rejected it.
– PCB demanded that the Indian national cricket team should tour Bangladesh this year, which was also demanded by the International Cricket Council.
The main issue before the T20 World Cup 2026 was between ICC and Bangladesh. Pakistan deliberately escalated the controversy by threatening to boycott the entire tournament. Later it was told that the team would boycott India’s match only. The stance taken by Pakistan seems more political than cricket.
