Australian batsman Travis Head etched his name in the record books with his century on the second day (Saturday, November 22) of the first Ashes 2025-26 Test against England at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The left-handed batsman recorded the third-fastest century by an Australian in the longest format of the game.

With Usman Khawaja unable to start, Head was forced to open the innings. Chasing the target of 204 runs in the last innings, the left-handed batsman made the most of the opportunity. He made a partnership of 75 runs for the first wicket with Jake Weatherald. Weatherald was out after scoring 23 runs, but Head did not stop attacking.

Travis Head scored the second fastest century in Ashes history

Travis Head recorded the third-fastest century by an Australian in this format, with only Adam Gilchrist (57 balls) and Jack Gregory (67 balls) reaching this milestone in fewer balls.

He also recorded the second fastest century in Ashes history. Gilchrist scored a century in 57 balls against England in 2006. Notably, Head’s innings was the sixth fastest century in this format. Brendon McCullum holds the record for the fastest century in this format.
